About
The North Oakland Bucks started because a boy wanted to play football. His mom searched far and wide for opportunities for him to play but as it turns out, there were no options for him because he was homeschooled. She felt it wasn’t fair that their educational choice would be what prevented him from playing a sport he loved, so she decided to do something about it.
As it turns out, there were countless other families in the same boat. The Bucks started football. And volleyball. And basketball. And boys volleyball and softball and baseball and cheer. In their first year and a half, 350 kids had played on a team or trained at a camp with the Bucks. Moms and Dads stepped up to coach, run the scoreboard, collect admissions, and plan fundraisers. Siblings sold concessions, dressed as our mascot, and started a student page. Grandparents led prayers, helped coach, and cheered kids on with passion and excitement. Community members sponsored fundraisers, helped cover costs, and donated time and services.
Though the Bucks started small, they didn’t stay that way for long. The North Oakland Bucks has become a community of people who care about each other, care about athletes, and serve the Lord. Young men and women are developing their talents and skills through teamwork, effort, and athletic training and competition. We praise God for what He’s done so far with this organization and for what’s coming next. And we hope that you’ll be a part of it.
Go Bucks and God Bless!
